Dr. Sorenson is a graduate of the Indiana University School of Dentistry. He has served on the Visiting Faculty of the Institute and is Past President of the L.D. Pankey Alumni Association. Dr. Sorenson is a Past President of the Indiana State Board of Dentistry, is a member of the American Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics, Northeast Regional Board Examiners, American Equilibration Society, American Dental Association, and Indiana Dental Association. He has lectured throughout the United States and Canada including hands-on courses on esthetics, preparation design and technique, and provisionalization.

Chairman of the L.D. Pankey Dental Foundation, Dr. Barry S. Segal, of Aventura, Florida, anticipates that “these individuals will contribute greatly to The Pankey Institute’s oversight committees and funding efforts. We are proud to have attracted to our Board individuals of such high professionalism and service.”

The Pankey Institute is a nonprofit organization in Key Biscayne, Florida that promotes optimal oral health care through advanced continuing education for dentists (www.pankey.org). Founded in 1972, it was the first institute of its kind and remains among the most prestigious, attracting dentists from 42 nations to its educational programs. Nearly 20,000 dentists and specialists have attended its courses and now serve millions of patients worldwide.

The Pankey Institute is coming to Vancouver.

The Pankey Institute will be in Vancouver on September 12-13 for a 1.5-day seminar titled “Pursuit of Clinical Excellence.” Drs. Steve Ratcliff and Lee Ann Brady will cover what you need to know to ensure predictable results, optimal care and complete client satisfaction.

This seminar is ideal for dentists seeking ways to take their practice to the next level, dentists who want an introduction to what is taught at The Pankey Institute, and dentists who have previously attended a course at the Institute. It is also excellent for specialists and technicians who work with dentists who have taken courses at the Institute.

Although the course is directed primarily at doctors, highly functioning teams will find many of the concepts discussed at this seminar useful in assisting patients toward an understanding of their condition and in asking for the best the doctor has to offer. The Pankey Institute welcomes doctors and their teams to attend together.

The Vancouver seminar will be held at the Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue of Simon Frasier University (in the Asia Pacific Hall, 580 West Hastings St., Vancouver, BC V6B 5K3). Seminar completion earns 12 AGD lecture hours.

The tuition fee of $675 per doctor and $290 per staff member includes morning and afternoon sessions, lunch and an evening reception on Friday, followed by a morning session on Saturday. Pankey Institute Announces Dental Access Days

Key Biscayne, FL–The Pankey Institute has launched a new outreach program to help meet the oral health needs of the underserved. This program is called  “Dental Access Days” and will provide basic dental services to the underserved in the United States. The L.D. Pankey Foundation, Inc., is making this possible by partnering with organizations around the country and working with Pankey-trained dentists to deliver high quality care to those who would not otherwise have access to dental care.

Dr. Keith Phillips of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, teamed with Dr. Lee Ann Brady, Clinical Director of The Pankey Institute, to establish this new program. According to Dr. Brady, “Dr. Phillips has been on our visiting faculty for many years. He and his partner, Dr. Jonathan Cuthrell, were instrumental in establishing the Giving Hand Foundation in North Carolina, an organization dedicated to promoting the development of dental and medical clinics which provide free or reduced fee services to needy individuals in North Carolina and selected Third World Countries. In addition to serving in North Carolina clinics, Dr. Phillips has served on dental and medical missions in Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina, and he has served abroad in Paraguay, Jamaica, and Cameroon, Africa.”

The first project of the Pankey Dental Access Days program is a 2-day clinic to be held April 25-26 at the Mount Vernon Baptist Church of Atlanta, Georgia. This first clinic will be facilitated by Dr. Donald R. Rozema, an Atlanta dentist on the Pankey Institute’s visiting faculty. A 3-day Baltimore area clinic will be held July 31-August 2 and will be facilitated by Dr. Nancy Ward and Dr. Denny Byrne. Dr. Ward currently serves on The Pankey Institute’s board of directors. Dr. Byrne serves on the visiting faculty.

According to Dr. Phillips, “We envision a nationwide program that will provide free dental care to several thousand people each year who have no other access to dental services—all provided by dentists who believe that giving back to needy individuals in their communities is an important part of their responsibility as a dental professional.”

Pankey Enrollment Increases over 60%

Key Biscayne, FL As a result of introducing its new curriculum titled The Pankey Essentials and offering complimentary lodging in the Pankey Lodge condos in celebration of the new curriculum, The Pankey Institute for Advanced Dental Education has seen a first quarter rise in its registrations in excess of 60% compared to the first quarter of 2007. The first five sessions of Pankey Essentials Level 1: Occlusion in Everyday Dentistry have filled to capacity. Summer sessions are filling fast.

The Pankey Essentials is a series of four courses that cover core teachings of the Institute. Many additional topical courses are offered that may be taken in flexible order. The Essentials and satellite electives have replaced The Pankey Continuum, which is being phased out over a two-year period. According to Dr. Steve Ratcliff, Chairman of the Department of Education at The Pankey Institute, “We have great enthusiasm around the new curriculum. Participants are telling us that they love the new structure and that they have great tools to take home and use Monday morning. They also like the idea that they can pursue different learning tracks based on what they feel they most need to learn. We believe that completing the Essentials will equip dentists with the skills and tools they need to do today’s sophisiticated dentistry with confidence!”
