Mastering Occlusal Concepts

May 15, 2022 @ 8:00 am - May 18, 2022 @ 12:00 pm

$5,700

If you are ready to take what you know about appliance therapy and occlusion to the next level than this course is a must. The anatomic appliance, first designed by one of Pankey’s original faculty members, Dr. Henry Tanner, is one of the most impactful diagnostic and therapeutic tools for patients at higher occlusal risk. It is the only appliance design that replicates a fully functioning occlusion and can create a recipe for changing the occlusion on the tops of the teeth through equilibration, restorative, or orthodontic therapy. This course is taught by three pre-eminent Pankey Faculty Dr. Mark Kleive, Dr. Buzz Raymond and Dr. Sara Kellogg who use and teach the anatomic appliance. In this hands on program, you will get to experience the role of the patient and the doctor, expanding both your technical and behavioral skills at using appliance therapy and advancing how you use the anatomic appliance as a patient awareness tool.

Learning Objectives

At the completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Provide another tool in your “bite splint toolbox” for individualized differential diagnosis and treatment of TMD and OMD (occlusal-muscle dysfunction).
  • Hands-on fabrication and adjustment of an Anatomic Bite Splint.
  • Observe and apply what people uniquely do with their teeth on an acrylic bite splint.
  • Better understand the influence of the eminence and the most appropriate anterior guidance (cuspid rise or group function), individualized for each patient.
  • Transfer what we learn from an anatomic bite splint to the equilibration and restorative treatment plan with predictability.
